MSC casino offers, explained

MSC's casino rewards run one cruise at a time. You earn Dream Points with your ship card, a matrix posted in the casino shows what they unlock, and your next cruise offer arrives by email. Here's what MSC itself says, what players and comp services report, and what you still pay.

Short answer

Insert your ship card when you play and you earn Dream Points. MSC says slots and video poker earn at the same rate, points can be turned into free play during the cruise, and play counts toward your next cruise offer until the casino closes on the last day. MSC doesn't publish the rate or the thresholds online; it posts its Rewards Matrix in the casino. The figures in circulation (1 point per $3, 10,000 points for a free interior cabin) are reported, not official.

MSC says its casino comps include taxes and fees, with a refundable deposit returned as free play, while discounted offers still carry taxes and fees. You also pay the daily Hotel Service Charge, $17 a person a night on US and Caribbean sailings booked from May 11, 2026. You must be 18 to play, or 21 in Alaska.

How offers arrive

MSC has no casino offers portal like Club Royale's. Its casino comp page names three routes into an offer: the play on your current sailing, a match of another casino's offer, and invitations to event sailings.

  • From this sailingMSC says your "play and points accumulate towards your next cruise until the casino closes on the last day," and that you "receive your next cruise offer via email; no waiting in line or missing out on last-day points."
  • Comp matchMSC's comp match site says it "will match your cruise line or land-based casino comp offer." You send a form there. MSC doesn't publish how long a reply takes or what it matches to.
  • Event sailingsThe same page promises invitations to "exclusive event sailings" for VIP players, without saying who qualifies.
  • Wynn RewardsWynn Rewards members can claim an annual MSC cruise benefit from their Wynn account (see below).
  • What players reportComp services and fan sites describe a certificate or reward choice made with the casino host near the end of the cruise. MSC's page only mentions the email. The fan site estimates are in our end-of-cruise comps guide.

MSC Voyagers Club, the line's cruise loyalty program, is separate. Its status match takes cards from other cruise lines, hotels and tour operators (the form's list also includes MGM Resorts, Mohegan Sun, Resorts Casino, Rivers Casino and Wynn Las Vegas) and gives a Voyagers Club tier, not a casino offer. How the different matches compare: matches, casino hosts and travel agents.

Earning Dream Points

MSC's casino page says to "insert your ship card into the machine while playing to instantly start earning Dream Points." Everything else about the program comes from its comp match site or from reports.

Using pointsPoints can be converted "to free play during your cruise."$50 in free play for each 1,000 points past a free cruise level.
When counting stopsWhen the casino closes on the last day.Points don't carry over to the next cruise.

Same rate on video poker

Most lines earn more slowly on video poker than on slots. MSC says its ratio is the same for both, which matters if you play video poker with a good pay table. Check the machine's pay table before you play: video poker on cruise ships.

No program year

MSC publishes no tiers, program year or year-end reset for Dream Points. Each sailing stands alone, so there's no deadline to chase. Lines that do have deadlines are compared in program-year deadlines.

If the reported $3 rate is right, 10,000 points means $30,000 put through the machines. At a typical 8% house edge, that is about $2,400 in expected losses. The math is worked through in what a free casino cruise really costs.

Free cruise offers

Here's what MSC promises about its comps, and the matrix URComped publishes. MSC hasn't confirmed the matrix figures.

  • Taxes and feesMSC says "our casino comps include taxes and fees" and adds, in a note, "Taxes and fees apply to discounted offers."
  • DepositComps come "with low sailing deposits that are refundable and returned as free play." MSC doesn't give the amount. In the URComped interview, MSC's casino marketing director put it at $500 for a fully comped cabin, returned as casino credit once the cruise begins (different for Yacht Club).
  • DrinksThe comp match page promises "drinks always on the house in the casino" while you play. The same interview says free casino drinks go to invited VIP guests on a comp offer, marked on the card or with a sticker.
  • Yacht ClubMSC says casino players can upgrade to MSC Yacht Club. It doesn't publish the price.
  • Date changesMSC's US booking terms say promotional casino offers "may include additional terms limiting departure date changes," and those terms override the standard ones.

Dream Points needed in one sailing, as reported by URComped's MSC page (accessed October 21, 2026). Interior to balcony certificates are for the Bella experience. The same page says points past a level add $50 in free play (Promotional casino credit for the machines. The credit itself can't be cashed out, but what you win with it can.) per 1,000 until you reach the next level, when the free play resets. Our MSC page has the same table.

Currencies and paying for play

Everything on board goes on your cruise card. MSC's onboard payment rules decide which currency you play in and how you get cash.

Onboard currencySailings, per MSC

US dollarCaribbean, Bermuda, Canada and New England, South America, South Africa, China, Japan and South Korea, and Grand Voyages to Europe and Australia.

  • Registering a cardActivate your cruise card by registering a credit, debit or prepaid card at a Cruise Card Activation Point, from embarkation until 11:00 p.m. the next day, or leave a cash deposit at Guest Services.
  • Cash on boardMSC offers a cash advance on a registered credit card, only in the onboard currency and "for a fee, set according to the itinerary." You can also prebook cruise credit before you sail.
  • On your statementCasino chips show up under "Entertainment" on the onboard account statement, which you can download in the MSC for Me app until you leave the ship.
  • Charging play to your accountIn the URComped interview, MSC's casino marketing director said gaming charged to your account carries no added fee, with a $50,000 daily limit, and that cash advance fees depend on your bank. MSC's own pages don't cover this. Reported.
  • SmokingMSC's FAQ bans smoking indoors except in the casinos, during opening hours, for guests who are seated and playing. Some ships have smoke-free areas; check yours on our MSC page.

If the onboard currency isn't your card's currency, your bank's conversion rate and fees apply. Win/loss records for taxes: cruise casino winnings and taxes.

Wynn Rewards partnership

MSC announced on February 18, 2026 that it is the exclusive cruise benefit partner for Wynn Rewards, the loyalty program of Wynn Las Vegas.

  • All tiersMSC says members "across all tiers" get annual cruise benefits based on status, "from preferred pricing and complimentary staterooms to onboard casino incentives."
  • Top tierMSC's release says "top-tier rewards members will receive access to the MSC Yacht Club." Neither MSC nor Wynn names that tier on the pages we read.
  • GiveawaysMembers "may also qualify for invite-only cruise giveaways throughout the year."
  • How to claimWynn's page says to log in to Wynn Rewards, open Rewards Summary and choose "Select This Offer" for the Annual Cruise Benefit.

Wynn marks each one "subject to availability and restrictions may apply." Wynn's partnership moved to MSC from Holland America. How the land casino programs compare: land casino partnerships.

What you still pay

MSC's US booking terms say the cruise fare doesn't include "gratuities," "gaming," "service charges," or government fees, taxes and port expenses. A casino comp covers the fare and, per MSC, the taxes and fees. The rest is yours.

How the charge works

MSC adds the Hotel Service Charge to your onboard account each day, based on your itinerary and the days the services are actually provided. Children under 2 pay nothing. MSC doesn't recommend tipping individual staff. Prepaid service charges aren't refunded if you don't sail.

One FAQ line disagrees

A general answer in MSC's US FAQ says service charges and gratuities "are included in the cruise fare." MSC's booking terms and its Hotel Service Charges page both treat the charge as separate and added daily, so plan to pay it.

Worked example: two guests, seven nights

Two guests in a regular stateroom on a 7-night Caribbean cruise booked after May 11, 2026: 2 × 7 × $17 = $238 in Hotel Service Charges. Add 18% on anything from the bar and whatever deposit your offer asks for, which MSC says comes back as free play. This is our arithmetic from MSC's published rates.

The same costs on other lines, and the expected cost of the play behind an offer: what a free casino cruise really costs.

Age rules

  • 18To gamble in MSC casinos, per its Guest Conduct Policy (last updated June 3, 2026).
  • 21 in AlaskaThe same policy sets the casino minimum at 21 in Alaska.
  • 21 on US cruisesMSC's FAQ says every guest in a stateroom must be 21 or older on cruises to the US, unless they're 18 to 20 and traveling with a guest who is 21 or older.

More on ages by line: first time in a cruise casino.

Before you book

  • Find the matrixOn board, look for the Rewards Matrix MSC posts in the casino. It's the only official list of points needed for each reward.
  • Use your card every timePoints only count when your ship card is in the machine or handed to the dealer.
  • Read the offer emailCheck whether it's a comp (taxes and fees included) or a discounted fare (taxes and fees extra), the deposit and any limits on changing dates.
  • Budget the service chargeIt's per guest, per night, and not part of the comp.
  • Know your currencyEuro, dollar or pound depends on the itinerary, and cash advances carry a fee.
  • Keep recordsDownload your onboard statement before you leave the ship; it isn't available in the app afterward.

An offer is only worth something if you'd take the cruise anyway. Playing to reach the next level usually costs more than the cabin is worth to you. Set a budget before you board.
